Is This an Insurance Claim?
Six questions on whether what you are looking at is likely to be covered.
Start the quiz
The expensive mistake in North Texas is not filing a claim you should have filed, usually because a bruised roof looks fine and the reporting window closes before it leaks. The other expensive mistake is filing one for a roof that simply wore out. Six questions, and you will know which conversation you are having.

This looks like a storm claim. Get it dated.
Dented soft metals plus a storm inside the last year is the pattern carriers pay on. The thing that costs people money here is time: most Texas policies limit how long after the date of loss you can report, and a bruised roof will not leak inside that window. Get it inspected and photographed now so there is a dated file, whether or not you decide to file.

This sounds like a repair rather than a claim.
Contained damage on a roof that is otherwise sound is usually a few hundred dollars and half a day, which is well under most deductibles. Filing for it puts a claim on your record for no benefit. An active leak should be phoned in rather than typed, because water in the assembly gets expensive quickly.

This reads as wear rather than a covered loss.
Policies pay for sudden damage from a covered peril. Age, heat and general wear are excluded everywhere, and no inspection turns one into the other. That is worth knowing before you open a claim, because a denial for wear and tear still sits on your record. If the roof is genuinely at the end of its life, the useful conversation is about replacing it.

Not enough to tell from here. That is what the free visit is for.
Most of what decides this cannot be seen from the ground: whether the mat is bruised, whether the sealant strip is still bonded, whether the attic side is dry. Someone gets on the roof, photographs what is there, and tells you which of the other three answers you actually have. It costs nothing and there is no obligation attached to it.

A calculator narrows it down. A ladder settles it.
If You Want the Real Number
Free, even when the answer is no.
The inspection is free whether or not you hire anyone, and that includes being told the roof is fine for another few years.

The inspection
Shingles lifted, flashing checked, the attic side looked at, and photographs of all of it.

Repair, replacement, or nothing yet. If a storm caused it, that changes who pays, and we say so.

The work, then the magnet
One crew start to finish, and a magnet over the drive, the lawn and the beds before anyone leaves.
