Roof Insurance Claim GuidanceBased in Midlothian, TX
Most people call us about the claim before they call us about the roof. Documentation is what a settlement turns on.

Insurance Claims
What this actually involves.
Most people call a roofer about the claim before they call about the roof. A claim turns on documentation more than it turns on damage: what got photographed, on which slope, against which storm date, and which line items made it onto the estimate. Two identical roofs on the same street get different settlements because one of them was written up properly.
The adjuster is working from a software estimate and a checklist. If the contractor on site does not know the language, things get missed, and what gets missed is never the shingle. It is the drip edge, the ice and water shield the code now requires, the ridge vent, the pipe boots, the detach-and-reset on the gutters, the satellite dish, the paint on the fascia. Each one is a line item, and a settlement is the sum of the line items rather than a judgment about the roof.
How It Works
Call or text
Tell us what you are seeing. An active leak jumps the queue over a roof you are wondering about.
The inspection
Shingles lifted, flashing checked, the attic side looked at, and photographs of all of it.
You get the answer
Repair, replacement, or nothing yet. If a storm caused it, that changes who pays, and we say so.
The work, then the magnet
One crew start to finish, and a magnet over the drive, the lawn and the beds before anyone leaves.
The Difference
The parts that decide whether it lasts.
Texas law is on your side on the two questions people worry about most. You do not have to collect three estimates. You choose your contractor, and the carrier pays fair market price for the work regardless of who does it. And a contractor who offers to waive, absorb or eat your deductible is proposing insurance fraud, which is a criminal offense in Texas for both the contractor and the homeowner. We say that plainly rather than hint at it, because the offer is the clearest warning sign there is.
A denial is not the end of it. Carriers deny for missing documentation as often as for absent damage, and a re-inspection with a different adjuster, backed by a properly counted test square, is a normal and unremarkable step.
What this is not: we are a roofing contractor, not a public adjuster or a law firm. We document the damage, meet the adjuster on the roof, and write the estimate. Negotiating the policy itself is somebody else’s license.

Insurance Claims, answered.
Do I have to get three estimates?
No. In Texas you choose the contractor you want, and the carrier pays fair market price for the work. Your usual out-of-pocket is the deductible.
Can a roofer cover my deductible?
No, and anybody offering to is proposing fraud. It is against the law in Texas and both the contractor and the homeowner can be held liable. We say that plainly rather than dance around it.
What if my claim gets denied?
Denials are commonly about documentation rather than damage. A second opinion with counted test squares, and a request for re-inspection with a different adjuster, is the normal next step.
Who pays for the inspection?
Nobody. The inspection is free whether or not there is a claim in it, including when the answer is that there is not.
Should I call the insurer or a roofer first?
Get the roof looked at first so you know whether there is a claim to file. Knowing whether the damage is storm related or simple wear before you open a file saves you a claim on your record for nothing.
What is a supplement?
A request to add line items the first estimate missed, usually code-required work such as ice and water shield or ventilation that only becomes visible once the tear-off starts. It is routine, not a dispute.
