Metal Roofing
What this actually involves.
Metal changes the arithmetic. An asphalt roof in North Texas is a 12 to 20 year purchase you will make two or three more times. A properly installed metal roof is usually the last one the house needs. It reflects rather than absorbs solar heat, which matters more here than almost anywhere, and it carries a Class 4 impact rating, the highest there is, which most carriers discount for.
Two systems cover nearly every residential job. Standing seam hides the fasteners inside the raised seam, so there is no exposed screw and no rubber washer ageing in the sun. It is the premium residential choice and the one that looks modern from the street. Ribbed panel is screwed through the face, costs meaningfully less, and belongs on shops, barns, porches and detached structures where the look is part of the point.
How It Works
Call or text
Tell us what you are seeing. An active leak jumps the queue over a roof you are wondering about.
The inspection
Shingles lifted, flashing checked, the attic side looked at, and photographs of all of it.
You get the answer
Repair, replacement, or nothing yet. If a storm caused it, that changes who pays, and we say so.
The work, then the magnet
One crew start to finish, and a magnet over the drive, the lawn and the beds before anyone leaves.
The Difference
The parts that decide whether it lasts.
The difference between a metal roof that lasts fifty years and one that leaks in five is not the panel. Every manufacturer sells the same coil. It is the transitions: where the roof meets a chimney, where two planes intersect in a valley, where a wall runs up out of the roof. We bring a roll-former to the property so panels are cut to the exact run of the house rather than lapped from stock lengths, and we hand-bend flashing rather than fitting generic kits. Both are the right answer to the same problem.
Underlayment is the other thing people get wrong. A metal roof runs hotter at the deck than asphalt does, and standard synthetic underlayment degrades under it. High-temperature underlayment is not an upgrade on a metal roof, it is the specification.
Metal is louder in rain than people expect and quieter than they fear. Over decking and underlayment, on a house with an insulated attic, the difference from asphalt is small. Over open purlins on a barn, it is not.

Metal Roofing, answered.
How much more does metal cost than shingle?
Two to three times the up-front cost of an architectural asphalt roof is the usual range in this market. Whether it is cheaper depends on how long you are staying: over thirty years it usually is, over seven it is not.
Is a metal roof loud in the rain?
Over solid decking and underlayment, barely different from asphalt. The noise people remember is metal over open purlins on a barn, which is a different assembly.
Will it dent in hail?
Standing seam carries a Class 4 impact rating, the highest tested. Very large stones can cosmetically dent a panel without affecting the watertightness, which is why some carriers exclude cosmetic damage on metal. Check that clause before you buy.
Does metal lower my energy bill?
It reflects solar heat rather than absorbing it, which reduces attic temperature and the cooling load. How much you see on the bill depends far more on your attic insulation and ventilation than on the panel.
Can metal go over my existing shingle?
Sometimes it is done, but it hides the decking, which is the one thing worth seeing. Anything found under there stays found.
